JB Eat: Ho Seng Kee Wanton Noodle (何成记自制云吞面世家) @ JB City Square

Ho Seng Kee (何成记自制云吞面世家) is a restaurant serving noodle dishes with its homemade wanton noodle since 1936. It is located in the Rooftop Bazaar of JB City Square, on the top (6th) level.

Ho Seng Kee has about 12 types of noodle dishes and a long list of side dishes and beverages. Some of the noodle dishes are available as rice dishes too. All the noodle dishes can be paired with selected beverages to make set meals with discounts. Ho Seng Kee's noodle dishes are "highly customisable" with several options to select flavours, add-on ingredients, thickness / size of noodle, amount of sauce for tossing, etc.

Ho Seng Kee (何成记自制云吞面世家): Menu

Unless otherwise specified, Ho Seng Kee's default homemade high-protein egg noodle, that is flat rather than round, will be used in all noodle dishes as dry-tossed noodle. It has a really springy texture and surprisingly good.

The signature Gourmet Wantan Mee (高筋云吞面) is served with their egg noodle, tossed in selected flavour or sauce, and topped with slices of lean char siew (barbecue pork) and 5 meat dumplings. The dumplings, usually buried under the noodle to keep them moist and warm, are lightly flavoured with a mild peppery taste. The wanton noodle is a great dish to have — and so near to JB custom.

To have fatter char siew instead of the lean ones, go for the Premium Char Siu Mee (花肉叉烧面) — available after 11am — and order a bowl of wantans soup to make up a full-fledge wantan noodle.

The Pork Belly Mee (花肉面) has similar dry-tossed noodle with a separate bowl of pork soup with long thin slices of pork belly meat, carrot and greens. The light-tasting soup is nice and not overly savoury.

The Prawn Dumplings Mee (虾饺面) is served with 4 big prawn dumplings in a bowl of soup. The prawns are fresh and crunchy with well-balanced flavour.

Ho Seng Kee (何成记自制云吞面世家): More noodle dishes and side dishes

With their great-tasting homemade noodle as common bases for all noodle dishes, Ho Seng Kee can expand their menu to include more creative and delicious dishes. I will keep going back for different dishes — although I have eaten the wantan mee at least 3 times.
