Restoran Tauge Ayam Lou Wong (老黄芽菜鸡沙河粉) specialises in "beansprouts chicken" (芽菜鸡) and Ipoh sha hor fun (沙河粉) — both are must-try dishes in Ipoh. The well-known restaurant is located in Gerbang Malam (or Night Gate Market), a short walking distance from Ipoh Old Town.

Although "beansprout chicken" (芽菜鸡) is usually referred to as one dish, it is actually steamed chicken and beansprouts served separately as two dishes. To try the local sah hor fun, or flat rice noodle, forgo the rice. Ipoh's sah hor fun is slimmer and has a smoother texture than kway teow (broad flat noodle).

Lou Wong's steamed chicken uses "bearded chicken" (胡须鸡), a specie of free range chicken, that is leaner and more muscular than broiler chicken. The chicken meat is tender and without much fats under the skins.

Ipoh's locally-produced beansprouts, quick-boiled before serving, are fat, juicy and crunchy. They are very popular in Ipoh.

Aside from steamed chicken, beansprouts and sah hor fun, Lou Wong has side dishes too, including chicken feet dishes, chicken offals, stir-fried vegetables and others.
