Taman Sentosa (大丰) in Johor Bahru is well-known to most Singaporeans as a food haven, especially in the evening till late night. Other than having many eating places that line the streets, especially along Jalan Sutera, there is also a huge shopping centre, called Plaza Sentosa, with few shops, restaurants, a couple of food courts and a couple of supermarkets — while there is not much for shopping, food-related businesses strives.
Taman Melodies (美乐花园) is technically a residential estate opposite Taman Sentosa on the other side of Tebrau Highway. Some of the bungalows in the area have been transformed into commercial use. Apart from restaurants and cafes housed in the bungalows, there are shophouses and coffee shops within the estate too.
Several bus services, mainly myBAS services operated by Causeway Link, passed by Taman Sentosa and Taman Melodies along their routes to other destinations. To check the routes of the services on Causeway Link's website, tap on the purple bus service numbers.
Bus Services along Tebrau Highway
If going to Taman Melodies or west side of Taman Sentosa (near to Tebrau Highway where Plaza Sentosa is located) from JB Sentral, use either of the following services from the bus terminal below JB Sentral:
The fare to Sentosa is approx. RM1.50. Both T11 and T20 has service frequency of 30 minutes, whereas T14 is 40 minutes within its operating hours. To find out more about T14, read the guide to Taman Desa Tebrau.
The above bus services will stop at Plaza Pelangi (for Taman Pelangi), followed by stopping at Crystal Crown Hotel (for KSL City Mall or Taman Sri Tebrau) before arriving at two bus-stops for Taman Sentosa and Taman Melodies.
Use Crystal Crown Hotel as a landmark to know when to alight from the buses.
For Taman Melodies, alight at either the first or second bus-stop after Crystal Crown Hotel. There is no pedestrian crossing at the first bus-stop, so it is not recommended to alight there if going to Taman Sentosa.
For Taman Sentosa, or to Plaza Sentosa or Jalan Sutera, alight at the second bus-stop and cross the highway using the overhead bridge.
Bus Service along EDL Highway
Taman Sentosa is about 2Km wide and it may not be a good idea to alight at the bus-stop along Tebrau Highway and walk 2Km along Jalan Sutera to the east side where there are more food options.
To get to the other end of the estate, take myBAS T21 from JB Sentral instead. The bus service will stop at Taman Sentosa, at the eastern end of Jalan Sutera, before heading to Mid Valley Southkey Mall and then to Permas Jaya in Masai. The service frequency is 30 minutes.
Causeway Link CT
Causeway Link CT, used to be called CT1, operates between JB Sentral and Bayu Puteri. The service cuts through Taman Pelangi to Taman Sri Tebrau and then stops at Plaza Sentosa and along Jalan Sutera, in Taman Sentosa, before going to Bayu Puteri. The whole journey is about 30 minutes but service frequency is 1 hour 20 minutes.
Departures from JB Sentral:
07:00, 08:20, 09:40, 11:00, 12:20 | 15:50, 17:10, 18:30, 19:50
The service will stop in front of Plaza Sentosa.
Departures from Bayu Puteri:
06:20, 07:40, 09:00, 10:20, 11:40 | 15:15, 16:35, 17:55, 19:15
The service will stop along Jalan Sutera but NOT at Plaza Sentosa.
The service serves different routes in both directions due to one-way roads in the area — check the routes before you go. To return from Taman Sentosa to JB Sentral using CT Services, be at the bus-stop along Jalan Sutera, about 5 minutes after the services departed Bayu Puteri.
Getting Back to JB Sentral
Going back to JB Sentral is easy — just hop onto:
myBAS T11 / T14 / T20 at any of the bus-stops along Tebrau Highway,
myBAS T21 along EDL Highway, or
Causeway Link CT along its service route going towards JB Sentral.
Note that myBAS services have operation time till after 11pm — the last service of the day will leave their embarkation terminals at around 11pm to JB Sentral. This allows the use of public bus services to get to JB Sentral after visiting the food havens in the evening.
