Singapore Eat: Jia Soong Soong (吃爽爽) Curry Puff & Snacks @ Bukit Batok Central

Writer: RickRick

Jia Soong Soong (吃爽爽) is a snack stall of few months old in S-11 Bukit Batok Food House in Bukit Batok Central. The stall serves a wide range of fried fritters / snacks.

Aside from local-popular fried dough, sweet potato fritters, goreng pisang (banana fritters), curry puffs, etc, there are nuggets, skewered fishballs, sesame balls and a lot more.

Jia Soong Soong (吃爽爽): Fried fritters

Most of Jia Soong Soong’s snacks are nicely fried and non-oily. The savoury ham chim peng (咸煎餅) and sweet butterfly fritter (蝴蝶煎饼) offer different flavours and not too salty nor sweet. The pumpkin cake (南瓜糕) is nice too — there are also carrot cake and yam cake.

Their curry puffs are nice and tasty. The spiral turnings on the curry puffs are large and remain crispy after several hours. There are 3 flavours: curry chicken, potato and sardine.

The Curry Chicken Puff has filling of chicken meat, potato and egg and is mild spicy. The Potato with Egg Puff is similar to the curry chicken puff except without chicken meat. The Sardine Puff has filling of sardines added with sweet shallot and spices that gives the puff a sweet-spicy flavour. The flavours of some spices are quite distinct, not muffled, and they make the curry puffs stand out.

They are still a lot of other snacks to try at Jia Soong Soong — a couple of items a time.
