Yu Shi Ji (豫石记羊汤) is a Chinese brand of restaurants that specialises in traditional mutton soup. It has several outlets around Beijing City and one of those outlets is located along Dongsi South Street (东四南大街), opposite the western mouth of Yanyue Hutong (演乐胡同).

Yu Shi Ji is well-known for its clear mutton broth that is boiled till rich and creamy, and fresh mutton meat and offal with no gamey taste. The mutton soup can be added with noodle or paired with freshly-made traditional sesame pastry (芝麻酥饼). Aside from mutton, beef is also available as soup, with noodle or as fillings of shao bing (Chinese flatbread, 烧饼).

The Mutton Soup Specialty Set (精品羊肉汤套餐), added with sweet potato glass noodle (红薯粉), comprises of a pretty big bowl of mutton noodle soup and a piece of sesame pastry. The creamy mutton broth has rich flavour, no gamey taste, and added with flavours of scallion and coriander. The slices of mutton are very fresh and tender. It is really good.

The traditional Sesame Pastry (芝麻酥饼), coated with lots of white sesame seeds, has a really nice aroma. The pastry has a soft texture, nice taste and not too sweet. It is amazingly delicious with an aroma that keep tempting me to go for more.

Yu Shi Ji's mutton soup and sesame pastry are really not to be missed when visiting Beijing.
