Getting to any districts in the northern part of Johor, Malaysia, or beyond the state of Johor is easy using long-distance bus services from Larkin Sentral or train services from JB Sentral (where applicable). Getting to Kluang District (居銮) in the central part of Johor is as easy as A-B-C:
A. Long-distance bus services
B. Train services
C. Domestic buses
A. Long-Distance Bus Services
If you intend to travel from Singapore to Kluang using long-distance bus services, cross the Causeway to Johor Bahru, proceed to the bus bay below JB CIQ checkpoint and take one of the public buses available to Larkin Sentral. Other than Kluang, you will be able to travel to Muar, Batu Pahat, Mersing, etc, within Johor or to Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, etc, beyond Johor's border.
Travelling time of the buses between Larkin Sentral and Kuang Bus Terminal is around 1.5 hours. However, it may take around 2 hours during peak hours, especially due to traffic congestion along the Skudai Highway on the way back. Service frequency is determined by individual bus companies. The fare is around RM16 (excluding applicable fees) and varies depending on bus type.
All Kluang-bound buses (or coaches) will arrive at Terminal Pengangkutan Awam Bandar Kluang (Kluang Bus Terminal) in Kluang Town. Note that Kluang Bus Terminal is a common terminal for both intercity and domestic buses, and taxis. The train station is located about 700 metres away.

Other destinations from Kluang Bus Terminal:
Malacca — 9am, 11am, 3pm
Mersing — 10:45am, 3:30pm
Singapore — 10:30am, 12:30pm, 2pm, 10pm
JB Larkin Sentral — Many services from 6:55am to 8pm
Kuala Lumpur — Many services from 7:20am to 8:30pm
Others to Ipoh, Penang, Songkhla (Thailand), etc

B. Train Services
Kluang is one of the few towns in Johor that has a railway station.
The Old Kluang Station has ceased operation in 2025, preserved as a historical building and became a new tourist attraction. Read: Kluang See: Old Kluang Train Station
The new Kluang (Railway) Station, with elevated railway tracks, is located right beside the old station and accessible via its new entrance a short distance down the same road. The trains that call at the new station include both the older, slower diesel-powered KTM Intercity trains and the newer, faster ETS (Electric Train Service) trains — effective from 12 Dec 2025.

Based on KTMB's booking platform, the current 4 KTM Intercity services, in each direction per day, will still be operational till 31 December 2025:
JB Sentral to Kluang: 8:30am, 2:40pm, 6:05pm and 8:25pm
Kluang to JB Sentral: 4:34am, 10:15am, 12:22pm and 5:54pm
Fare: RM14 per person (one-way)
Travelling Time: Around 2 hours
Effective from 1 January 2026, KTM Intercity services will be as follow:
JB Sentral to Kluang: 9:05pm
Kluang to JB Sentral: 10:01am
Fare: RM14 per person (one-way)
Travelling Time: 1.5 hours
Effective from 12 December 2025, the newer and faster ETS trains will begin operation between JB Sentral and KL Sentral in Kuala Lumpur:
JB Sentral to Kluang: 8:40am, 12:45pm*, 4:20pm and 8:30pm*
Kluang to JB Sentral: 0:44am*, 11:19am (11:29am*), 6:49pm* and 9:09pm
Fare: Flexi-Fare System
Travelling Time: 46~52 minutes
* Effective from 1st Jan 2026.
With the introduction of the newer ETS services from 12 December 2025, travelling time between JB Sentral and Kluang Station is reduced to around 50 minutes, making it the fastest mode of transportation between the two cities — but, half the travelling time, double the fare. The slower KTM Intercity services will be reduced to just one service a day comes 1st January 2026.
For day-trippers to Kluang, the ETS's morning service at 8:40am is the best option to get to Kluang and much faster and convenient than using long-distance buses from Larkin Sentral. The service at 6:49pm* may be a little late for many day-trippers and may probably have to rely on long-distance buses to return earlier. Alternatively, plan a short stay in Kluang and return using the ETS service at 11:19am / 11:29am*.
Note: Train schedules and fares are subject to changes, especially during periods of transition, refer to KTMB Online for up-to-date timings / fares. To save the hassle of going to the train station to get advance tickets, download KTMB's official mobile app (KITS Style) from respective app stores.
C. Domestic Buses
If you have lots of time to spend or will like to go on an adventure to explore couple of towns in Johor on the way to Kluang, try using domestic buses. The journey is definitely longer than long-distance buses.
You can take BAS.MY J30 from JB Sentral to Kulai then switch to City Bus 2 to Ayer Hitam Bus Terminal or take City Bus 2 from Larkin Sentral to Ayer Hitam Bus Terminal via Kulai. From Ayer Hitam Bus Terminal, take Johore Motor Bus 56 to Kluang.

I travelled from Johor Bahru to Kluang using solely domestic buses on one trip. Find out what to expect using this option: West Malaysia Day 1: Long Journey to Kluang in Johor
