Padi Kopitiam (Jalan Trus branch) is located along Jalan Trus in Bandar Johor Bahru, right besides Zenith Lifestyle Centre. It is an easy short walk from KOMTAR JBCC or JB City Square Shopping Centre. The cafe is next to Attrus Bed & Breakfast and is connected to the hostel — guests of Attrus B&B may enjoy discounts at the cafe.

The cafe is spacious with traditional kopitiam (coffee shop) settings near the entrance whereas the inner section looks more like a modern cafeteria. Two signs above the kitchen says "香烤面包", or roti bakar (toasts), and "现磨咖啡" (fresh-ground coffee), which are two components of traditional Hainanese breakfast sets commonly found in coffee shops across Singapore and Malaysia.

Padi Kopitiam's signature pastries (polo buns, egg tarts, etc) are kept in the warm glass shelf near the counter. And, they looked delicious.
The cafe also serves a long list of Malaysian local delights such as traditional toasts, nasi lemak, briyani rice, mee siam, kolo mee, curry laksa, etc. Their specialty snacks include curry puffs, goreng pisang (crispy fried banana), fried rice cakes, popiah (spring roll), etc. If spoilt for choice, the "Padi Top 10" dishes may be a good start.

Padi Kopitiam's two treasures (稻香二宝) are the freshly baked Padi Snowy Polo Bun (白雪菠萝包) and Crispy Mini Egg Tart (玲珑蛋挞) that are in the glass shelf. It will be cheaper to order more instead of one of each. There is a third treasure, which is their freshly-roasted coffee — the best way to experience its aroma and taste is a cup of kopi-O kosong.
The Crispy Mini Egg Tart is Portuguese-style with flaky layered puff pastry. The caramelised custard melts in the mouth and is mildly sweet. The Padi Snowy Polo Bun has crumbly, milk-white thin crust with a milky aroma. It is ultra-soft and has cheesy filling. Both are delicious.

The Char Lao Shu Fen (炒老鼠粉), or fried "mouse" vermicelli, has ingredients such as fish cake slices, egg, beansprouts and slices of fresh cucumber. It has nice sweet-savoury flavours that is similar to Singapore-style char kway teow but a lime sets it apart by adding a citrusy flavour to the noodle dish.

The White Kolo Mee with Wantan (云吞哥罗面/白) has springy egg noodle tossed in fragrant oil sauce with a fishball, chicken char siew, minced chicken meat and garnished with spring onions and fried shallot. The wantons (dumplings) are in a bowl of savoury soup. The white sauce gives the noodle dish a really nice flavour. The dish has a black version too.

Padi Kopitiam is a great place to have Malaysia delights with roasted coffee and also buying their pastries to take home or as gifts for others. Popular buys are their polo buns, mini egg tarts, banana cake and goreng pisang (fried banana fritters).
