Kluang Eat: Yi Jian Xiao Mian (壹見小麵) Hong Kong Dim Sum

Yi Jian Xiao Mian (壹見小麵) is a Hong Kong-style tea cafe (港式茶餐厅) located in the town centre of Kluang, Johor. Interestingly, the restaurant has a couple of variations of its own name on three signboards — "壹見小麵", "壹见小面" and "遇见小面" with mixes of simplified and traditional Chinese characters that seemed similar and yet may imply different things.

The restaurant seems to be small from its shopfront but it has a larger space with many more seats behind the restaurant.

Easily mistaken as a noodle house from its Chinese name, Yi Jian Xiao Mian actually serves dim sums, traditional toasts, fried rice dishes and various noodle dishes. Some of Yi Jian Xiao Mian's signature breakfast dishes are showcased in posters hanging outside the kitchen. Those dishes are toasts / sandwiches, egg tarts and wanton noodle.

They have quite a range of dim sum dishes on the menu.

I have tried the steamed spare ribs (鼓汁蒸排骨), mixed-filling chee cheong fun (鸳鸯香港猪肠粉), shrimp dumplings (晶莹鲜虾饺) and stuffed egg-plants (茄子酿鱼肉) from the dim sum list.

For noodle dishes, the Penang char kway teow (滨城炒粿条) is fried with prawns, slices of fishcake, egg, bean sprouts and spring onions. It is non-oily and nice too.

I will aim for their poster dishes (toasts / sandwiches, egg tarts and wanton noodle) on subsequent visits.
