Singapore Cafe: Luckin Coffee (瑞辛咖啡) @ Le Quest / West Mall

I have been hearing a lot about "Rui Xin Ka Fei" (瑞辛咖啡), a coffee-chain, that is fast-growing and very popular in China with long waiting time at nearly all its outlets. I did not know they have been in Singapore since 2023 until two Luckin Coffee outlets popped up in Bukit Batok: one in Le Quest Shopping Mall, with a bar table for dine-in, and the other in the basement of West Mall, mainly for takeaway / delivery only. A search online revealed that Luckin Coffee is indeed 瑞辛咖啡, so, it is definitely a must-try to find out why it is so popular.

Before visiting the cafe, it will be better for first-timers to download the "Luckin Coffee" app to get the first drink at $0.99 (while promotion lasts). Enable Location Services to find the nearest store, order ahead and pick-up the beverage(s) on arrival. Refer a friend to get the next cup at $0.99 too for both. Other in-app promotions may pop-up now and then too.

Other than the long list of coffees with special flavours, there are other beverages and some cakes / pastries to go along.

The 12-oz Pistachio Dirty comes in 3 layers with the top layer being espresso, followed by OATLY oat milk and greenish California pistachio syrup at the bottom. "Dirty" means that espresso is poured on cold milk latte, resulting in layers and a "dirty" look. Using oat milk (lactose-free) with "least sweet" option creates a cup of creamy latte that is flavoured solely by the small amount of pistachio syrup. The low-sweetness beverage retains the distinct flavours of coffee, oat milk and pistachio and well-balanced without any of them overpowering the others. It is indeed delicious.

The 450ml Pandan Coconut Latte is "SG Exclusive" and worth to try. A shot of espresso coffee is added to rich, cold-pressed coconut cream with greenish pandan, creating a similar "dirty" look. Similarly, the default "least sweet" option will give a well-balanced cup of 3 flavours. The mellow flavour of pandan does not overpower the taste of coffee.

The 12-oz, hot Gesha Americano has nice floral notes with smooth mouthfeel. It has no bitter notes so no need for sweetener. The Mango Grapefruit Daifuku with soft mochi skin is filled with fruity mango jam and grapefruit mixed with coconut milk. The pastry is chewy and creamy with fruity flavours.
