Gochiya is a Japanese-concept restaurant that sits right beside Tun Xiang Hokkien Delights (豚香福建馆), in the same unit in the basement of West Mall. Both restaurants, one Japanese and the other Hokkien, use Iberico pork as one of their key ingredients and are operated by the same crew. Gochiya serves teppanyaki and tonkatsu using high-quality Duroc / Iberico pork, chicken and salmon.

The Chicken & Duroc Loin Set is served with 80%-grilled chicken leg steak, Duroc loin, assorted vegetables and selected black pepper sauce in a hot plate, which continued to be heated over a metal grill on the table. Accompanying the dish is ikura chawanmushi, a jelly dessert and Japanese rice in a wooden rice bowl. Turn off the heat to the hot plate after 4~5 minutes to avoid overcooking. The nicely-grilled chicken steak is tender and juicy. The Duroc loin meat and is similarly tender and juicy with a firmer texture. The vegetables and shimeji mushrooms are tasty after sprinkling with some sea-salt. This is a great dish to go for two types of meat.

The Thick Iberico Loin Katsu Set is served with deep-fried Iberico loin katsu, requiring no further heating. Accompanying the tonkatsu are shredded cabbage, black and white sesame seeds with tonkatsu sauce, miso soup, ikura chawanmushi, jelly and Japanese rice. Grind the sesame seeds for dipping with the tonkatsu sauce. The well-fried Iberico loin still has a hint of pinkish, not over-fried, very tender and nicely-flavoured by the sauce.

The ikura chawanmushi, that is served with the set dishes, is a Japanese steamed egg custard dish topped with salmon roe (ikura). The ikura adds a salty burst of flavour to the silky smooth, savoury custard. This is nice and flavourful as an appetiser. A lychee jelly with slight bite is also served with the meals.

Gochiya's teppanyaki and tonkatsu sets are great ways to taste high-quality Duroc and Iberico pork at cheaper prices than other restaurants. Aside from Japanese-style, try them as Hokkien dishes at Tun Xiang Hokkien Delights too.
