Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice (天天海南鸡饭), established since 1986, is famous for its Hainanese chicken rice. Loved by Anthony Bourdain, an American celebrity chef, and recognised by Michelin Guide since 2017, Tian Tian is very popular among locals and tourists. The main outlet is located in Maxwell Food Centre, occupying two stall units. Four branches of Tian Tian can also be found around Singapore.
Aside from its signature Hainanese chicken rice, Tian Tian serves roasted chicken too and several other side dishes, such as oyster sauce vegetable, beansprouts with cuttlefish, chicken gizzard / liver, braised egg, etc. Half / whole chickens are available for group dining.
The Steamed Chicken Rice (白斩鸡饭) — minimum size is medium — is served with beautiful steamed chicken on aromatic chicken-stock-flavoured rice, dribbled with a savoury sauce and accompanied by a saucer of sour-sweet-spicy chilli for dipping. The meaty chicken is very tender with ultra-smooth skin without much fats under it. The rice is nicely-flavoured and the sauce enhances the dish with its mellow flavour. This is delicious and a must-try indeed.
The medium-size Roasted Chicken Rice (烧鸡饭), added-on with a braised egg, is served with roasted chicken and dribbled with savoury sauce too on the same flavoured rice. The roasted chicken is superbly done with tender and juicy meat with no too-dried parts. It is really good too.
Tian Tian also has a "Mix" large-size dish comprising of both steamed chicken and roasted chicken with rice. It is the best dish to go for two types of meat at one go for solo diners.
When visiting the main outlet of Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice at Maxwell Food Centre, do expect a queue regardless of weekday / weekend. The best time to go for their chicken rice will be just after 10am on weekdays and avoid the lunch / dinner hours. Or, try one of their branches in Clementi, Simpang Bedok, Lucky Plaza or Bishan.
