Batu Pahat Eat: Nasi Pakistan No. 1 Lamb Shank

Located at a cross-junction just opposite the Express Bus Terminal in Batu Pahat, Johor, Restoran Nasi Pakistan No. 1 Batu Pahat is one hotspot for its lamb shanks and sup tulang merah (red bone soup). The restaurant came to fame after videos of its delicacies gone viral online and gathered millions of views.

Restoran Nasi Pakistan No. 1, as the name implies, serves nasi Pakistan (Pakistani rice) with its signature dishes. Both the Sultan Lamb Shank set (RM50) and Sup Tulang Merah set (RM24) include nasi Pakistan with free drink (it can be any cold beverages).

For those who are not aware, sup tulang merah is a Singapore invention.

Purchasing of food is self-service. Just go to the stall right at the end of the corridor and get a serving of nasi Pakistan, then go to the adjacent stall to get either a lamb shank or sup tulang merah and then pay at the counter.

The piles of meaty lamb shanks stacking up in three large woks are so captivating.

It is difficult to stop salivating when looking at the beautiful red mutton with bones.

The nasi Pakistan is accompanied with some salad and couple of slices of orange. The aromatic and spiced long rice is delicious on its own. It tastes even better with the sweet red broth from the lamb shank.

The chunky lamb shank is very tender and separates from the bone easily — no knife needed. The meat does not have much gamey taste too. The broth is mostly sweet with slight spiciness and goes well with the rice.

The sultan lamb shank with nasi Pakistan is one set of delicacies that should not be missed when in Batu Pahat — despite the pricey price tag.
