JB Eat: Restoran Yi Bao (顺利面粉粿) Mee Hoon Kueh @ Taman Maju Jaya

How to know if the food served at a particular eating place is popular with the locals? Ask some locals. But, at Restoran Yi Bao or Soon Li (顺利面粉粿) along the "Newspaper Street" in Taman Maju Jaya right next to Plaza Pelangi, there is no need to ask, the crowds at the eating place during breakfast and lunch time have said it all.

Restoran Yi Bao serves traditional mee hoon kueh (or hand-pull noodle) and various types of noodle, including spinach noodle. They serve minced-meat porridge and chicken porridge too.

The traditional-taste mee hoon kueh in clear and non-oily soup contains a boiled egg, chunks of minced pork, fried anchovies and veggies. The thin slices of smooth mee hoon kueh are well-cooked and easy to chew.

The dry, dark-sauce version of Yi Bao's mee hoon kueh has about the same ingredients as the soup version with the addition of crispy fried pork lards that added fragrance and texture to the hand-pulled noodle. A separate bowl of soup contains a poached egg. The dark-sauce mee hoon kueh is tasty with crispy textures and tasted even richer after breaking the poached egg on the noodle and mixing it with the egg yolk.

I will try their spinach noodle on the next visit.
