Xiang Guo Bakery & Cake House (香果屋) is a bakery-cafe located in Mersing Kechil. It specialises in a wide range of cakes and other confections. As a cafe, it serves main dishes with beverages too. Any meals in the bakery-cafe is incomplete without having at least a slice of cake.
Xiang Guo's specialties are their wide range of colourful cakes that lined the counter. Aside from cakes, there are meal dishes of local flavours and western dishes, snacks, toast breads and long list of beverages.
The hot Choc Supreme with Peppermint is a cup of thick chocolate with strong flavour of peppermint giving double punches of flavour on every sip.
The Chicken Chop with Rice & Black Pepper Sauce (黑胡椒鸡扒饭) has very tender chicken chop, accompanied by black pepper sauce, with flavoured rice and a side of fresh salad. The black pepper sauce has nice black pepper aroma with mellow spiciness, adding its flavour to the chicken and rice. The nicely-fried chicken meat can be torn apart with just a spoon and fork, no knife needed.
Most of the cakes in Xiang Guo Bakery & Cake House are relatively big in sizes but there are few smaller ones too. The non-baked Green Tea with Red Beans Cake is one of the smaller ones. It is an amazingly flavourful cheesecake with non-homogenous layers of cheese flavoured with green tea giving varying depths of flavour. Whole red beans embedded in the cheese added their characteristic sweet flavour to the cake. And a touch of gold foil and white cream top off the greenish cake.
The cakes at Xiang Guo Bakery & Cake House have lots of flavours and some are really out of this world. I will definitely visit the cake house again if I have the chance to drop by Mersing again.
