Uncle Lee's Confectionery (李叔叔面包西果店) is a popular confectionery located along Jalan Pisang in Kampong Glam. It offers a number of old-school cakes, including kaya-pandan cake, durian cake, banana cake, etc, and variants of buttercream cake with selections of toppings and flavours. Each cake is about 6 inches in diameter. Other pastries include cookies, custard puffs, etc.

Uncle Lee's highly-recommended Kaya Cake emits a nice pandan-coconut aroma when the box is opened. The 6-inch cake is sandwiched with fluffy pandan-flavoured cakes between thick layers of pandan kaya, which has soft jelly-like texture. Overall, the cake has a nice aroma, mildly sweet, non-greasy and non-cloying. Half a cake can be finished without realising it.
Note: It is advisable to order the cake online or go to the shop as early as possible to buy it. The popular kaya cake sells out fast, even on weekdays.

The Peanut Buttercream Cake, with vanilla flavour, has soft fluffy cake coated with a layer of light vanilla-flavoured buttercream and topped with crunchy crushed peanuts. The cake has a nice vanilla and peanut aroma, very low sweetness too and the light cream does not give a cloying aftertaste. This is a must to try too.

Similar to the kaya cake, the newly launched Yam Cake has thick layers of creamy yam paste sandwiched with soft fluffy cakes. The cake has a soft texture with nice yam flavour and mild sweetness too. It is so light that I finished nearly half the cake on the first day. Unlike the other cakes that can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days, the yam cake should be consumed within 2 days.

Great news! Uncle Lee's Confectionery setups pop-up booths in shopping malls around Singapore too. Do check their Facebook or Instagram (links below) to see where their booths will be next — it beats running all the way to their shop in Kampong Glam when one of those booths just popped-up in your neighbourhood.
