Pastelaria Koi Kei (钜记手信) by Koi Kei Bakery (钜记饼家) is a famous hand-gifts brand in Macau offering a wide range of traditional pastries as gifts. It has many outlets across Macau Peninsula with another two in Taipa. The outlets are strategically located near popular places of interests such as Ruins of St. Paul, Senado Square, A-Ma Temple, Vila de Taipa, The Venetian Macao, etc. The main outlet is located along Rua da Felicidade, a well-known street with restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, and more.
The outlet near A-Ma Temple (Barra) features a Macao Museum of Souvenir (手信博物馆) with some 3D cravings of popular Macau landmarks (Guia Fortress & Lighthouse and Ruins of St. Paul) and Koi Kei Bakery's own famous products on its outer wall.

Koi Kei Bakery's wide range of offerings, include almond cookies / pastry, peanut candies, cashew candies, pineapple tarts, egg rolls, etc, in pretty packagings. The almond cookies and chewy peanut candies are the most popular among the signature products. Freshly-baked egg tarts and dried barbecued pork slices are available too. They bake mooncakes too for Mid-Autumn Festivals.

The signature Almond Cookies with Whole Almonds (粒粒杏仁饼) is a must-try on first-visit to Koi Kei Bakery and probably on subsequent visits after falling in love with it. The almond cookies are available in two different packagings: the green-and-yellow, flatter box contains machine-made cookies and the red thicker box contains handmade cookies. There are no difference in the ingredients use.
The handmade cookies are made using mung bean powder, whole almonds, peanut butter as main ingredients. They have solid and crunchy texture with nice flavours of mung bean and almond. I have to admit I was stunned by the cookies and regretted not getting more for myself.

Koi Kee Bakery has several flavours of peanut candies (花生糖): white sesame, black sesame, shredded coconut and sea-salt. Customers can also choose between the crunchy or chewy types — I tried two chewy versions, one with white sesame seeds and the other with coconut shreds.
Unlike traditional crunchy peanut candies (a.k.a. peanut brittles) with hardened molasses in rigid shapes, the chewy peanut candies are soft with crunchy peanuts and mild sweet. The soft-chewy maltose does not stick to the teeth after eating. The chewy candy is surprisingly nicer than most peanut candies that are either too hard or too sweet. The thick layers of white sesame seeds give the White Sesame Peanut Candy (芝麻花生糖) a rich flavour of roasted white sesame seeds and great to chew on. The Coconut Peanut Candy (椰丝花生糖) offers a different taste experience with nice coconut flavour.

Koi Kei Bakery's outlets near the Ruins of St. Paul, Senado Square and in Taipa Village can be very crowded during peak travel seasons. Try other outlets or the A-Ma Temple outlet in Barra with probably lesser crowds and an additional Macao Museum of Souvenir (手信博物馆) to visit.
