Restaurant Soon Ji, also known as Ah Soon Restaurant (阿顺饭店), is well-known for its traditional pork organ soup in Batu Pahat, Johor, and has a history of more than 40 years. It has worked its way from a street-side stall to its current restaurant.
After ordering the food at the counter near the entrance, take a seat and wait for one of the robots to bring the food to the table. Although food-serving robot is not a new thing these days, seeing one in operations in a Malaysia restaurant is pretty rare.
The pork organ soup can be consumed with rice or noodle. For first-time visit to the restaurant, it is recommended to go for their noodle that is topped with fried onions and crispy fried pork lard with fragrant lard oil.
The soup is full of ingredients with fresh lean pork, minced pork, fish slices, pig liver, pig intestines and beancurd. The tasty soup is flavoured with salted pickled mustard vegetables, which gives the soup its sourness and saltiness.
Apart from pork organ soup with noodle, there are sliced fish bee hoon / mee sua and minced meat noodle too.
One more thing, Ah Soon's traditional-taste fried pork lard with oil (古早味猪油渣) in jars and mixed pork soup in ready packs are available for sales. However, it will not be advisable for Singapore residents to bring the products through Singapore customs — purchase online via shopping apps.
