Singapore Buy: Kee Wah Bakery (奇华饼家) Mooncakes @ ION Orchard / Jewel Changi

Kee Wah Bakery (奇华饼家) is a renowned Hong Kong bakery, established in 1938, known for its authentic traditional Chinese pastries and snacks. While famous for mooncakes and bridal cakes, the bakery also offers popular items like Almond Butter Cookies and Coffee Rolls, combining heritage with a modern touch. Kee Wah Bakery expanded to Singapore with 2 outlets at ION Orchard and Jewel @ Changi Airport, bringing its taste of Hong Kong to the city.
Nearing the Mid-Autumn Festival, I visited the ION Orchard outlet and bought a box of Assorted Custard Mooncake, a box of Supreme Selected Mini Mooncake 2025 and a single Mini White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Yolk in a small metal box.

The box of Supreme Selected Mini Mooncake 2025 (特选迷你月饼礼盒) has assorted flavours of 2 x Mini Assorted Nuts Mooncake (迷你五仁果子月饼), 2 x Mini Red Bean Paste Mooncake (迷你红豆沙月饼), 2 x Mini Assorted Nuts Mooncake with Dried Figs (迷你无花果果仁月饼) and 2 x Mini Date Paste Mooncake with Pine Nuts (迷你松子枣蓉月饼). The dried figs and date are special flavours that I will want to try but the box set is meant as a gift.
Encased in a beautiful, small metal box, the Mini White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Yolk (迷你蛋黄纯白莲蓉月饼) — that I picked separately for trying — has a mellow, balanced sweet-savoury flavour between the salted egg yolk and white lotus paste. The salted egg yolk is not hard, not dry, no overbearing taste and its texture blended well with lots paste too. As expected of Hong Kong pastries, the sweetness level is also lower. This is so much nicer than most traditional mooncakes.

The Assorted Custard Mooncake (鸳鸯奶黄, 8 pcs) comprises 4 pieces of Mini Egg Custard Mooncake (迷你蛋黄奶皇月饼) and 4 pieces of Mini Earl Grey Tea Custard Mooncake (迷你伯爵茶奶皇月饼). Although the custard mooncakes are ready to be consumed as they are, they taste best after heating up as recommended by an attached instruction booklet. The crusts of the mini mooncakes will turn crispy and aromatic after heating and offer a unique texture and taste experience.
The yellow egg custard mooncakes, marked by "奇华" wordings, has salted egg yolk mixed in with custard filling giving the mooncakes homogeneous and mellow sweet-savoury flavours. The earl grey custard mooncakes, marked by "茶" word, has mellow earl grey flavour mixed in egg custard fillings. They have just-nice, balanced flavours, aromatic and similarly not too sweet. This is a great find!
Aside from egg custard and earl grey flavours, there is also chocolate flavour in dark brown crust with "朱古力" wordings.

I bought Kee Wah Bakery's wife biscuits and coffee cookies in August 2025 at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) when returning from a trip in Hong Kong & Macau. I can continue to try more of their traditional pastries in Singapore.
